Could a Companion Dog help you or a loved one?

Mobility Dogs are trained to forge unique partnerships catering to the specialised needs of their human. Companion Dogs go through the same rigorous training programme as a Mobility Dog and these incredible dogs have extraordinary, innate therapeutic abilities.

Often the bond between a dog and its human can help overcome many emotional impacts of their human’s conditions. These dogs have been known to give a renewed sense of purpose, and can help build stronger relationships both within the family unit and in the community.

Companion dogs can allow an individual to gain confidence in themselves that may have been lost, as well as providing friendship, love and emotional support.

Companion Dogs support families or individuals with ongoing, non-complex health needs—helping the whole household, not just one person.

When we match a person with a dog, we consider the following:

    • Financially able to maintain the ongoing costs of a Companion Dog
    • Able to manage the daily exercise and day to day care of a dog
    • Have a fully fenced garden with shade

Each Companion Dog may assist with the following:

    • Providing affection and comfort
    • Providing emotional support
    • Companion Dogs are known to have calming qualities, and in some circumstances might be able to help with regulating moods

Research has demonstrated that animal companionship may help stimulate the release of endorphins which can allow for a sense of wellbeing, and have an impact on stress and anxiety levels.
