At Mobility Dogs, we know that behind every incredible dog is a community of people who make their journey possible. One of those incredible dogs is Hugo, a bright and affectionate pup who’s now just over nine months old and making fantastic progress in his training — all thanks to the generous support of the Hugo Charitable Trust.
The Hugo Charitable Trust was established to honour the legacy of Hugh Green, a philanthropist known for his compassion, generosity, and commitment to making life better for others. The Trust continues that legacy by supporting initiatives that improve lives across Aotearoa — and we’re incredibly proud to be one of them.
It feels especially fitting that this promising young pup shares his name with the Trust that’s helping pave the way for his future. Thanks to their sponsorship, Hugo is receiving everything he needs to become a calm, capable, and confident Mobility Dog — from early socialisation and training, to health care, gear, and ongoing support. Their gift is helping change a life — one paw at a time.
Hugo is currently being raised by one of our wonderful volunteer puppy raisers, who’s working closely with our trainers to build his skills and confidence in all kinds of real-world environments. He’s already showing great focus and a gentle nature that we know will serve him well in his future partnership.
“Hugo’s coming along really well. He’s learning his cues nicely and starting to get more confident in busy places, which is big for him. He’s still a bit unsure of new things sometimes, but he takes it all in and gives it a go — you can almost see him thinking it through. He’s got a great little personality and keeps us smiling.” – Troy, Hugo’s puppy raiser 💚
We’re incredibly grateful to the Hugo Charitable Trust for believing in the life-changing impact of our dogs. Thanks to their support, Hugo is well on his way to becoming a trusted, empowering companion for someone living with a physical disability — and we’re so excited to see where his journey takes him.
Together, Mobility Dogs and the Hugo Charitable Trust are helping redefine what’s possible. Because this isn’t just about dogs – it’s about dignity, confidence, and the freedom to move through the world with greater independence.
We’re deeply thankful for their ongoing belief in our mission. With their support, we can place more paws where they’re needed most – and keep changing lives, one extraordinary dog at a time.
